The TOP-IX Consortium is the first Italian IXP to achieve Google Verified Peering Provider (VPP) Silver status. This certification identifies TOP-IX as a Layer-3 connectivity provider to Google, with high-capacity redundant connectivity (2×100G) across two distinct PoPs within the same metropolitan area.
The initiative aims to deliver additional value to consortium members by reintroducing the announcement of Google routes on public peering, which had been withdrawn in 2024.
This development is part of TOP-IX’s broader Layer-3 Services offering (find out how to access the service here), delivered through OpenEdge—a dedicated network (AS207638) that complements the Route Servers (AS25309). OpenEdge is designed to bring content closer to end users (e.g. caches and CDNs), improve reachability to selected destinations (partial transit), and facilitate route exchange with remote peers (e.g. France-IX Multipass).
Premium connectivity to Google
As a participant in the Google Verified Peering Provider (VPP) program, TOP-IX provides networks connected to its fabric with access to dedicated, highly available connectivity to the Google Edge Network.
The VPP program represents an alternative to direct peering with Google, offering connectivity to all publicly available Google services—particularly those not already delivered via caches hosted within OpenEdge (such as Google Workspace). This approach allows networks to leverage the same infrastructure used to access Google services, without the operational complexity of managing direct peering.
The service is operated by TOP-IX through redundant 2×100 Gbps connectivity and is made available to peers on an opt-in/opt-out basis.
