Layer-3 Services

In addition to peering, TOP-IX offers its members access to the Layer-3 Services to improve access to networks and content

To increase and enhance our public peering offering, TOP-IX delivers Layer-3 Interconnection Services through OpenEdge (AS207638), a dedicated network that complements the Route Servers (AS25309) to bring content closer to end users (e.g., caches and CDNs) and improve reachability to selected destinations (partial transit).

The key strengths of OpenEdge include the availability of locally hosted content and services, as well as dedicated connectivity to Google and France-IX Multipass.

The OpenEdge architecture is based on an integrated, high-performance switching and routing platform, featuring full component redundancy, with 10/100G connectivity to content providers and 200G connectivity to the TOP-IX peering fabric.


Local content and services

OpenEdge is designed as an open, neutral platform that enables Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to deploy their infrastructure in colocation within facilities managed by TOP-IX and its local partners.

Services currently hosted include Google, Microsoft, MainStreaming (DAZN), Netskrt (Amazon Prime Video) and Steam.


Direct access to Google

As a partner of the Google Verified Peering Provider (VPP) program, TOP-IX offers to networks connected to its fabric access to a dedicated, highly available connectivity to the Google Edge Network (AS15169).

The VPP program is an alternative to direct peering with Google and provides access to all publicly available Google services, particularly those not already delivered via caches hosted by OpenEdge (e.g., Google Workspace).

The service is delivered through a fully redundant 2 × 100 Gbps connectivity to Google and is available to networks who directly peer with OpenEdge.


How to request access to Layer-3 Services

To get full access to Layer-3 Services, you need to request public peering with AS207638 by sending an email to networking@top-ix.org. You may disable the advertisement of your routes to caches and partial transit (e.g. Google and France-IX Multipass) through specific BGP communities (see here).

Networks that peer with our Route Servers, where OpenEdge is already available. get access to caches by default, with the option to disable the advertisement of your routes to single caches through specific BGP communities (see here).
