Time as a Service

TaaS service extends to Padova, thanks to VSIX

TOP-IX Extends TaaS Service to Padua Through Agreement with VSIX, Strengthening Collaboration Between the Two IXPs. The official announcement was made during the latest VSIX Meeting, where Top-ix Consotrium’s president, Davide Calonico, presented the service.

The Time as a Service (TaaS)

The TaaS service, based on the Precise Time Protocol (PTP) and Network Time Protocol (NTP), operates on the infrastructures of VSIX and TOP-IX, offering greater security compared to similar services relying on satellite systems (e.g., GPS). This is a crucial requirement for mission-critical applications such as broadcasting, smart grid power networks, telecommunications, and high-frequency financial trading.

The service was developed by TOP-IX in collaboration with the National Institute of Metrological Research (INRIM).

Service Sharing

“This agreement with VSIX allows us to expand the reach of our TaaS service, making an extremely reliable and secure time synchronization solution available beyond our network – commented Andrea Casalegno, Tech Director of TOP-IX -. We are pleased to continue our collaboration with VSIX beyond interconnection.”

Professor Eleonora Di Maria, President of VSIX, echoed this sentiment: “The collaboration with TOP-IX for the provision of the TaaS service strengthens an already well-established partnership and enhances the portfolio of services that VSIX can offer to companies in the Northeast. This underscores VSIX’s role as a promoter of cutting-edge technological innovation and a key player in the region’s comprehensive digital transformation.”Learn more ab
