Peering

TOP-IX provides its Members and Partners access to the distributed Layer 2 Internet Exchange platform to establish Internet peering agreements with third parties connected directly or indirectly to its backbone.

The interconnection on the TOP-IX infrastructure

The peering service can be exclusively used to implement BGP sessions for mutual visibility among the Members/Partners of the Consortium.

However, it is prohibited to use the Consortium’s public peering platform for other functionalities (such as transport, resale of transit, etc…).

The peering service is available in three access modes:

TOP-IX has certified its peering activity according to the ISO/IEC 27001 standard. The certification qualifies that data management at TOP-IX is conducted according to the highest standards.

Direct peering

The direct access mode is used when the service user is directly connected to one or more active ports at nodes belonging to the TOP-IX platform.

TOP-IX encourages its peers to create and keep their records updated on PeeringDB to facilitate the automation of bilateral peering sessions.

Remote peering

It is possible to access the public peering services offered by the Consortium through a chosen Partner (Reseller) selected from those identified by TOP-IX.

Resellers are Consortium Partners who have signed a Reselling agreement to provide third parties with remote access (Remote Peering) to the TOP-IX peering platform.
The contractual relationship will be directly between the service user and the TOP-IX Partner.

The extension of the peering service (Layer 2) between the Consortium’s platform and that of the service user will be implemented by the Reseller through its network infrastructure.

Peering via other IXPs

The Consortium’s public peering platform is also available at the Internet Exchanges to which TOP-IX is interconnected.

The TOP-IX infrastructure is interconnected with:

Members of these IXPs can request access to TOP-IX’s public peering through their own IXP. It will be the responsibility of the IXP to act as an “intermediary,” extending the TOP-IX Layer 2 to the requester’s port.

The service is Best Effort, and therefore Quality Statements do not apply.
